Planning a bathroom renovation? Whilst there are many different elements to consider when modernising your current bathroom, or designing a completely new one, one of the most important is the colours that you will use in the space. From your wall paint to tiles, and even your bathroom accessories, choosing the right colours is so important. There are a number of ways to make this process easier which we will run through in this bathroom colour guide.
Colour palettes for bathrooms
Having a colour palette is the first step in the bathroom renovation process which will help you create the overall look and feel of your space. Whilst it can be tempting to opt for popular colour palettes i.e. pastel palettes with bright colours or black and white palettes with pops of colour, it’s always more fun to create your own palette.
Using the colour wheel to create your own colour palette will allow you to get creative and really make the space your own. Here are some ideas to help get you started:
Complementary Colours
This involves using the colour wheel to choose colours that will complement each other. Simply take a look at the colour wheel and note the colours that are opposite each other i.e. orange and blue with white or black as an accent colour, or green and red with silver or gold as an accent colour.
Analogous Colours
When using this method to create your colour palette, it is important to remember to apply the 60-30-10 rule to the three colours that you choose. These can be any three colours that sit beside each other on the colour wheel. This will ensure that you end up with a balanced colour scheme. I.e. Green (60%), green-yellow (30%) and yellow (10%)
Bathroom Tiles Colours
Once you have decided on the colour scheme for your bathroom, it’s time to start choosing your bathroom tile colours. With so many different options to choose from, this process can sometimes be overwhelming, so with that in mind, we have put together some of the current bathroom tile trends to help you make your decision.
Graphics and patterns
Make a statement in your bathroom by introducing a patterned tile. These types of bathroom tiles will compliment strong wall colours such as deep greens or bright whites. You also have the option of large graphic tiles or smaller and more intricate tiles. The wide range of colours and patterns on the market will really allow you to bring some of your creative ideas to life in your bathroom.
Wood effect
If you want to add a rustic feel to your bathroom then opt for a ceramic or porcelain tile which has a wood-effect design. Using this type of tile is a clever way to add some depth and texture to your bathroom.
Neutrals
Timeless and long-lasting, neutral coloured tiles will never go out of style. If you are hoping to achieve a more minimalist look in your bathroom then opting for a cream, white or grey tile will do just that. The result will be a bright, fresh and airy space that will always be inviting.
Pink shades
Pink tiles are currently having a moment, and for good reason. Using pink hues in your bathroom tiles can create character and warmth in the space, as well as being a talking point with guests. If opting for pink bathroom tiles, then consider green wall space or accessories to really make your bathroom stand out.
Bathroom Accessories colours
As they say, the devil is in the detail, so making sure your bathroom accessories tie in with the rest of your colour scheme is extremely important. Here are some tips to ensure that you get those finishing touches right in your bathroom.
Chrome bathroom accessories
If you have gone for a monochromatic theme of black and white, then modern chrome accessories will really bring the whole space together. A mirror with a silver frame and a bright backlight will create an eye-catching feature in this kind of bathroom.
Copper bathroom accessories
Copper accessories will be a welcome addition to any bathroom but will work best with dark and deep colours such as teal, blue and black. Adding a different texture, such as a marble tile, will also add contrast to your bathroom.
Black bathroom accessories
Bring some drama and depth into your bathroom by incorporating black accessories and fittings. Black taps, showers or even radiators will give your bathroom a trendy and modern feel, whilst still remaining warm and inviting.
